Week 9 Reflection – Curation Podcast & Ed Camp

This week I’ve tried something a little different. I took the following word document with my notes on this weeks lecture component….

And experimented with NotebookLM to create a podcast! Because the podcast is 6 minutes long, I thought it might be wise to share it via YouTube. To do this I created a YouTube thumbnail using Canva, and used iMovie to put together the podcast audio and video image. All of this and tada…!

For the second part of class, we participated in something called “Ed Camp” where we got to collectively create and decide on the topic of conversation, and then we got to float around from group to group to participate in the conversation. I ended up getting really engaged with my group conversation and didn’t move from group to group. My group was discussing how to support LGBTQ+ students, and how to implement SOGI. Unfortunately we didn’t really come to a fully-fledged answer, but we shared stories from personal experiences, and our conversation kind of veered onto the topic of increasing misogyny in our society. I think the great thing about this exercise was that we got to have discussions about perceived knowledge gaps in the program, but the problem with this exercise was we weren’t talking to any qualified professionals, so it was more like we were hazarding guesses and collaborating on our best answer as a group. Overall I think the structure of ed camp is excellent, and it would be greatly enriched if the topics of conversation were supplemented by the orchestration of future guest speakers who can address our questions.
